Dr. Aglaia Kong of Leapfive Technology

discuss the views about the challenges and opportunities of double carbon and world change

On June 21, 2022, Dr. Aglaia Kong of Leapfrog Technology was invited by the PHBS I-Forum Live to share her insights on dual carbon and the challenges and opportunities of the changing world.First, Dr. Kong shared the innovation methodology:

1) Why: what to solve?

2) What: how big is the impact?

3) How: what type of method to use?

4) People: is that good for humanity?

5) Usage:  how easy is to adopt?

Based on her own methodology, she has created more than 26 products/innovative that have successfully impacted billions.

Dr. Kong mentioned: in recent years, global warming has become the focus of attention of various countries.  In China, the proposal of “carbon peaking” by 2030 and “carbon neutrality” by 2060 demonstrates the responsibility of a major country and accelerates the development of green technology, green industry, and green life for the whole society.  From an international perspective, green development has become the consensus of various countries in the world.  Therefore, we should actively and effectively develop light energy, silicon energy, hydrogen energy, and renewable energy.
The challenges of clean energy include:1) uncontrollable supply of wind, light, and hydropower;

2) peak shaving and valley filling.  At the same time, it also brings opportunities to connect billions of devices, machines, and systems on the energy production side, energy transmission side, and energy consumption side with advanced sensors, controllers, and software applications through the Energy Internet, thus driving the next wave of great growth in the semiconductor and information industries.

When discussing the direction of innovation, Dr. Kong said, “As a leader in intelligent industrial IoT chip solution company, LeapFive Technology uses the open-source RISC-V CPU architecture and the original CAST model, form the starting of support capabilities of the chip to break the hardware, software, and data boundaries, and systematically propose solutions.  Leapfive has created a core technical framework of “three horizontal – one vertical – one platform” and provide full-stack solutions based on this.  The full series of LeapFive products are all domestic independent and controllable, and meet the stringent industrial quality.  They are used to ensure energy and industrial IoT security, low energy consumption, intelligence and data assets are trustworthy, traceable and tradable, thereby accelerating the achievement of carbon neutrality and securing the supply chain.”

“In the past three years, after our investigation and research on several companies, we have concluded the following pain points in the energy industry: rapid development of new energy, bipolar load growth, few adjustable load resources, high requirements for carbon neutrality and emission reduction, low terminal intelligence level, and poor user-grid interaction.  In the area of peaking shaving, LeapFive has been able to collect power consumption data from production equipment and smart home appliances by implanting chips that meet grid certification standards.  Furthermore, based on the calculation within the chip, the power consumption of the equipment can be controlled.”

Dr. Kong pointed out that the factory equipment basically includes automatic control, but it is not intelligent.  By adding chips, the cooling function of the equipment can be turned on in sections, thereby leveling the peak of the power grid.  This program can reduce carbon emissions by 40%, and we have piloted it in 5 to 7 provinces and hope to cover the whole country in the next few years.  In terms of building energy conservation, it focuses on adding sensors such as motion, position, light, temperature, and humidity, and adds precise power metering control for air conditioners, while using smart gateways to collect the above-mentioned types of data to the big data platform for artificial intelligence analysis, automatic control of air conditioners, to achieve the demand for energy saving.

Finally, Dr. Kong shared some suggestions for future entrepreneurs:

1) remember the 5 elements of Innovations;

2) Do NOT get dis-encourage if the problem is hard;

3) Think out of the box;

4) Think Big and Long Term;

5) Have a sense of urgency, live like there is NO tomorrow!
